Nancy’s Dream

September 28th, 2011
What can Nancy’s dream be?
Just like the great Martin Luther King Jr., I also have a dream, and it involves providing transformational housing and education for single mothers seeking refuge from abusive relationships.  I keep this dream close to my heart, and am absolutely convinced that it will one day become a reality.

I have a passion for issues that impact women and children, and my career of selling commercial playground systems has provided me with the financial resources to launch a website devoted to women, makegirlfriends.com.   My goals are to provide a forum that allows women to meet, share, and inspire, while dedicating a portion of the profit to establish transitional apartments for abused women and their children.  It’s often said “you must teach someone to fish so they will never go hungry.”   Far too many single mothers fail to reach their full potential because they are “fed”, instead of being taught how to “fish”.  My desire is to establish a program that will offer these women the opportunity to build skills that will lead them to real success, and leave behind a life of welfare and mediocrity.

We can make this happen together!

My vision is that each woman accepted into the program will participate in developing their own customized plan for success. I will partner with employers to identify specific job skills that are in need, and secure employment promises for women who attain those skills. Educational institutions will be solicited to provide the training, and health care providers will be called on to deliver counseling and life coaching.  Specific benchmarks will be established for each individual, and only those who are truly motivated to succeed will be accepted into the program.  Just as I don’t promise to be all things to all people, this program will not be for everyone.  It will be demanding, rigorous, and will force each woman to stretch themselves beyond the boundaries of what they thought possible, but for those who are admitted, the potential rewards are limited only by their individual drive and desire.

Making changes one woman at a time. I believe in this endeavor, and have no doubts that it will come to fruition.  I believe we can accomplish anything that we set our HEARTS to, and encourage anyone who wishes to help with this project to contact me directly at nancy@makegirlfriends.com.    The journey starts with one step at a time; one foot in front of the other.  Two years ago I had no idea that I would embark upon a journey that resulted in the creation of a website for women to meet, share and inspire one another.  One year later, the website is now a reality.  I have learned that if I eliminate the things that are perceived to be impossible, then everything becomes a possibility, and the universe provides us with infinite opportunities!

Remember, may the possibilities of today excite us all!

Hi Nancy, I am intrigued by your dream. I have worked in mental health for 20 years, I had spent some of this time on a committee, which introduced a screening for abuse for all women. I agree, the shelters are there with the means they have but it is because of how gov’t funding is shared that I believe leaves women with only one options; not an option for growth, education, tools and support to reach their own dreams and change the way they have learned to do things in the past. A friend and business partner and I are working on a conference, to hold for awareness on abuse; the cycle and built with a different twist of understanding who the women are that are being abused in our society. It is not just the poor, or isolated, not just the uneducated or uncultured. Abuse can happen to anyone, and I believe healing and growth with many different opportunities is what will help people stand up and take notice to the devastation abuse leaves on society. I hope you continue to speak out on this, I pray your dream comes true and that many women are “saved” with a program which is tailored to their needs, not found in a box.
    Thank you for listening.

Sarah what a beautiful note; I feel your compassion for this issue in your voice in the words you stated. I thank you for the encouragement to search out my dream of teaching and healing for many of these abused women. Abuse does leave devastation to our society and also devastes the children involved and watching from the sidelines. This is why I want to tailor this program for abused mothers and their children….it’s the generation that is left behind that we need to touch and touching the lives of the adults then the children will benefit from the healing and growth. I will surely continue to speak out on this subject and hope that I can get it to the national media for then is when action will take place.
I am here to listen to voices and I am in gratitude to you and what you have done for the past 20 years – I applaud you my friend!

    Hello My new girlfriend -

Thank you for your comment on my dream….Yes I do have passion for life and that comes out in everything I do.

Yes my thoughts and energy are out to the universe and now the universe will bring it all together with my efforts. I appreciate the good wishes on my mission.

Yes I do want to contribute to this lifetime and create a space of safety and love for women and their children!

Yes the universe does provide us with infinite possibilities but we must be open to them….in gratitude and love! We must throw the “impossible” word into the verbal trash receptacle. For nothing is impossible if we believe and dream…..

    In love, light and bliss,
    Nancy

    Nancy,
We loved meeting you during our girls weekend! What a perfect time to meet you and explore the website. We are having a fundraising walk for a friend we lost to domestic violence last year. The funds raised are going to her two sons left behind and the National Center for Domestic Violence. I am hoping that some of the committee members, who have lost sight of the true meaning of this walk, will once again realize the goal. Not who did what, or who raised the most money, but come together as a community to show our love and desire to make people more aware and less afraid to support this cause!

      Hello Anne Marie,

Loved meeting you and your friends also and YES how perfect to meet on your girls weekend!

What a wonderful fund raising event that you are partaking in. A great cause indeed! Yes, I do hope that some of the committee members who lost sight of the meaning of the walk will awaken to why they are doing this.

My friend awareness is all and FEAR stops us from fully realizing things at times.

In support of your walk and my wishes for the termination of domestic violence,
      Nancy

My dear BFF – Nancy -

And you will achiever your dream.

I worked for five years as a volunteer with the Chicago Cout System on a program we developed for prostitutes.

Many were so trapped in abusive relationships besides. And they stayed and continued because they had no place to go.

Dearest BFF Corinne that believes in my dream! I love your story of you working with Chicago Cout System. We want to provide the freedom to these individuals and give them a “new” start….

      Thank you!
      Nancy
